In the summer of 2014, I was asked to lead a brainstorm for several Hasbro senior executives intended to guide them in the development of a connected story universe for Hasbro’s Action Brand properties (e.g. Transformers, G.I. Joe, etc.), similar to the then-new Marvel Cinematic Universe. As part of that brainstorm, I led a deep-dive seminar into how different creators have taken different approaches to building connected universes, followed by several active sessions identifying opportunities, setting out the rules of the universe, and laying the groundwork for the development of a lore bible that was intended to guide all creative to follow.
Below is the deck for the first multi-day summit, held in August 2014, followed by the deck for the second summit in February. The second deck incorporates some of the initial work developed by the HasLab team based on the outcomes of the first summit, including an early map of the Hasbro Universe. This work unfortunately never bore fruit, but it was still an incredible opportunity, and was one of the coolest projects I got to be involved in during my time at Hasbro.
